Project Overview
R K Electrical Services was appointed to complete a full electrical rewire for a residential property in Birmingham. The existing electrical system was outdated and no longer suitable for modern household demands, making a complete upgrade necessary to improve safety, functionality, and compliance.
The project was carefully planned and delivered in line with current UK electrical regulations (BS 7671:2018), providing the homeowner with a safe, efficient, and future-proof electrical installation.
Client Objectives
-
Replace all outdated wiring with a modern, compliant electrical system
-
Improve electrical safety throughout the property
-
Add capacity for high-demand appliances
-
Ensure full certification for peace of mind and compliance
Scope of Work
1. Design and Planning
A full electrical design was carried out to map out lighting, power points, and appliance locations across the entire property. This ensured optimal placement, efficient circuit layout, and allowance for future electrical needs.
2. Removal of Outdated Wiring
All existing, obsolete wiring was safely removed as part of the rewire. This eliminated potential safety risks associated with ageing electrical systems.
3. Installation of New Cabling
New cabling was installed throughout the property for lighting circuits, socket outlets, and fixed appliances. All cable routes were planned to minimise disruption while maintaining a clean and professional finish.
4. Dedicated Appliance Circuits
Separate circuits were installed for high-demand appliances including an induction hob and oven. This ensured safe operation, reduced electrical load stress, and improved overall system performance.
5. Installation of Electrical Accessories
New sockets, switches, and lighting fixtures were fitted throughout the home, providing a modern, consistent look while improving usability and convenience.
6. Consumer Unit Installation
The new consumer unit was installed with metal enclosure for fire protection; including RCBO breakers for electric shock risk, overload or short circuit; and surge protection device to protect electrical systems and equipment from sudden, short-duration increases in voltage caused by lightning strikes, power grid switching, or faults in the supply network, - complying with current British Standards (BS 7671:2018)
7. Testing and Certification
Upon completion, full electrical testing was carried out and certification issued to confirm compliance with current regulations and provide safety assurance for the homeowner.
